About GTA Online

Grand Theft Auto Online is a dynamic and persistent open world for 16 players that begins by sharing content and mechanics with Grand Theft Auto V, but continues to expand and evolve with content created by Rockstar and other players. Taking the fundamental concepts of open-world freedom, ambient activity and mission-based gameplay and making them available to multiple players in an incredibly dynamic online world, we offer players the freedom to explore alone or work cooperatively with friends to complete missions. Residents of Los Santos band together to participate in activities and ambient events, or compete in traditional game modes with the entire community, all with the personality and refined mechanics of Grand Theft Auto V.

You start by creating and developing a unique character from the ground up and can invest in your potential criminal by customizing his or her appearance, improving their stats, owning customized vehicles, purchase personal property, and taking part in Jobs, Missions and activities that continually open up new opportunities to rise through the criminal ranks.

Grand Theft Auto Online will continually expand and evolve over time with a constant stream of new content, creating the first ever persistent and dynamic GTA game world.

Open-Wolrd Crime

Go on your own or round up your friends to explore the open world together – catch a movie, hit the shooting range and much more. Want to test the law? Knock over a convenience store, take down a gang or rob an armored truck for easy cash and Reputation. The wide open world of Los Santos and Blaine County in Grand Theft Auto Online are teeming with opportunities to paint the town red whilst chasing the almighty green – including:

Hold Ups:

Players can rob convenience stores, gas stations and liquor stores alone or together for cash. Robberies will trigger a wanted level that will be shared among the perpetrators.

Armoured Vans:

As armoured vans go about their daily rounds, players can ambush and rob them for cash. Chase ‘em down with a rocket launcher or C4 explosives or a well-timed crash and blockade to make off with some sweet currency.

Crate Drops:

Look to the sky, you never know what sort of surprises may be dropping in. Arms, ammo, cash or something rare and unexpected. Crate drops are available once you reach rank 20 and have completed a Job from Trevor.

Simeon Yetarian of Premium Deluxe Motorsport is looking to employ individuals with flexible work hours and the skill sets to ‘find’ and deliver select vehicles for a handsome cash reward. Keep an eye out for his incoming texts.

Can you really put a price on a dish best served cold? In Los Santos, revenge has a price point that you can gleefully assign to an unwitting adversary to make them the target of every hired gun on the map.

Impromptu Deathmatch:

If it seems like you’re getting a little too much attention from one particular admirer by means of picking you off repeatedly, you can feel free to make things personal by engaging them in a one-on-one Impromptu Deathmatch in a place of your choosing to settle the score.

Los Santos and Blaine County are ripe with opportunity for the ambitious and criminal minded. Take on Missions and an array of other Jobs as a lone wolf, team up with your Crew or join fellow mercenaries and degenerates to pull off a wide range of robberies and illicit activities together – including:

Co-op Missions:

They say you’re defined by the company you keep. If you surround yourself with savvy criminals who share the view that “good honest pay” is overrated, there’s no limit to what you can accomplish. Rub out enemies, deliver valuable contraband, destroy targets, steal coveted vehicles and more with the help of trusted allies or the nearest person of flexible moral fiber who is ready, willing and able to join forces for fun and profit. Or take part in special co-operative Survival missions, where you and your allies work together to stave off an armed enemy onslaught that gets progressively more brutal – at each wave, new gear will become available to help you stay alive and fight the good fight.

VS Missions:

These missions pit one team versus another – and sometimes additionally against a hostile third-party like a gang you’ve both ripped off or a relentless LSPD police force. See which squad emerges victorious in explosive scenarios of combat and pursuit.

Trigger and tailor free-for-all and team Deathmatches either on foot or in vehicles. Choose your preferred settings including number of teams, victory conditions, time of day, and weather.

Gang Attacks:

Players roaming the open world may stumble upon an AI gang hideout – ripe to be trespassed and assaulted. Work with teammates to take them down and reap the spoils.

Heists (Coming Soon):

Coming soon to Grand Theft Auto Online are full-on cooperative Heist missions that will require careful planning, teamwork and sharp execution. You’ll also be able to utilize the Heist Planning Board at your apartment to ensure your caper game plan is airtight.

Everything from classic street competition and off-road tracks to boat racing on the open ocean, or take to the skies in aerial events. Jump into the madness of a GTA Race, or try out a brand new race type, Rally, where driver and co-pilot work together to navigate treacherous courses at high speeds.

Standard Race:

Blaze through checkpoint-to-checkpoint against fierce competition in a race to the finish line. Be the first at the checkered flag to claim your glory. While this race is weapons-free, it never hurts to give opponents a well-placed bumper to bumper love tap or strategically timed sideswipe.

Bike Race:

Whether by motorcycle, BMX or good old-fashioned mountain bike, race across the open terrain, vast highways and mountainous paths of Los Santos and Blaine County.

Rally Race:

Rally Race is a collaborative team race that requires camaraderie, trust and skills. One player drives while the other navigates using a headset or directional buttons to direct the driver. Only the navigator sees the checkpoints and radar, so the driver must rely on savvy judgement to traverse the course and help steer their team to victory.

Air Race:

Air Race over southern San Andreas in epic dogfights piloting a heavy duty, military grade and artillery equipped P-996 Lazer jets – or challenge fellow pilots to an aerial race flying light planes, faster personal jets or helicopters.

Sea Race:

Show those sedentary socialites soaking up the sun on Vespucci Beach how a true salty dog gets down – on a light and nimble Seashark, or a mercurial speedboat of your choosing to complete the circuit and demonstrate your nautical know-how.

GTA Race:

Attacking other drivers is not only permitted but expected in this highly combative race type. A GTA Race includes all the ingredients of its namesake, high-octane vehicles and weapons of all types, which players can pick up while in or out of a vehicle and use against each other. Go tooth-and-claw till the bitter end to assure your rivals finish tardy and tarnished.

Sports and Activities

Join your friends / any random stranger for a game of Tennis, a round of Golf or go base jumping and more, all for cash and Reputation.

Hit the Los Santos Golf Club to play a round of nine spirited holes with up to four friends that you can distract and ridicule to your heart’s content.

Base Jumping:

There are 37 Parachute Jump locations all over southern San Andreas where you can risk life and limb by plummeting towards terra firma at maximum velocity. You can jump from the tops of mountains, buildings or leap out of helicopters.

Even when taking a break from the turbulent streets of Los Santos, you can still show your opponents no “love” via an ace serve and vicious backhand. This local favourite pastime can be played at seven different locations.

Shooting Range:

Become an expert shot by opening fire on targets that don’t scream, alert the authorities and occasionally fire back for a change. Visit one of two Ammu-Nation locations, on Elgin Avenue in Pillbox Hill, Downtown LS and in Cypress Flats, East LS.

Stunt Jumps:

There are 50 Stunt Jumps in GTA Online to test your mastery over vehicular physics and ability to ignore your better judgement.

Arm Wrestling:

Arm Wrestling is a very primal and slightly romantic testosterone-driven challenge with very little button memorization needed. Select a radio station to set the mood and then go mano-a-mano against a challenger to see who’s got more brawn and endurance.

Grab a friend for a road trip to the Yellow Jack Inn located on Panorama Drive in the Grand Senora Desert, where you can kick back and toss a few precise projectiles in this time-honored barroom game of accuracy and skill.

Create your character using the Character Creator – a heredity-based system that allows for a multitude of options to create your avatar that will then inhabit the online world of Los Santos & Blaine County – then earn some cash and spend it getting dressed for success. You can also collect and customize cars for your garage and personalize your full weapons cache.

Customize character appearance at the many shops around Los Santos and Blaine County. Buy new clothes, masks or sunglasses. Get a new hairstyle or tattoos. Players can also change outfits in their apartment.

There are a ton of options to customize both cars and motorcycles in GTA Online. Visit Los Santos Customs to trick out your vehicle with custom paintjobs, wheels, window tints, grills and spoilers, along with robust performance upgrades to suspension, engine, brakes and more to fine tune the way your rides feel and handle. Then take your masterpiece out on the streets to race for pride and profit against others Online.

Purchase and equip silencers, scopes, extended magazines, flashlights and more by visiting your local Ammu-Nation store.

Reputation is earned from all your accomplishments in GTA Online – and will help you rank up, providing access to new features, weapons and criminal contacts. Spend cash you’ve gained on cars, clothes, guns, properties and much more.

Cash is king, and industrious residents who hustle to afford the finer things by earning GTA$ doing robberies, hold-ups, winning races and other profitable activities can afford to live the high life with a fly apartment, fine clothes and accessories, weapons and other status symbols.

Everyone needs a place to hang their hat and get away from it all. Once you’ve earned enough coin to settle down with a home of your own, hit up the Dynasty 8 real estate website to find the ideal pad.

Property Amenities:

After a hard day, it’s nice to kick back and enjoy a few of the serene comforts of home. Be social, have a guest over to discuss and plan your next big move or show off your personal collection of vehicles. Above all, enjoy your space and make use of it.

If you’re feeling lucky or just particularly confident at the start of a Deathmatch or Race or a game of Tennis or Golf, put your money where your mouth is and back up your boasts with a wager for some GTA$.

Spread the Wealth:

Coming into Los Santos for the first time doesn’t always have to be a “rags to riches” story. If you’ve got local friends in high places then the same real world rules of nepotism may apply – you can actually share your cash with a friend.

Grand Theft Auto Online Heists is a 4-player Co-Op Content Update coming in Early 2015 for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC which features 5 unique Heist missions adding in 20 hours worth of gameplay into GTA Online. Heists will require careful planning, teamwork and sharp execution. Play as the lead role in the Heist(s) or as a crew member. Each Heist will require a number of objectives to be completed prior to taking on the big score. You might need specific clothes, weapons and vehicles, or even have to find the perfect hacker, getaway driver and distraction.

How Heists Work:

Each heist requires 4 players all at rank 12 or above, with one player as the designated heist leader. Leading a heist requires owning a high-end apartment so that you have a room available to set up the planning board. From there you’ll be able to launch missions as the leader, starting with the prep work and building up to the score itself.

Being a heist leader has advantages and disadvantages. On the upside, Lester contacts the leader directly when there’s news of a job and it’s up to the leader to invite players into the crew, assign positions, pick outfits and allocate each player’s cut. On the other hand, the heist leader will need to personally front the set-up costs in order to successfully pull off the heist.

Unlike the leader, other crew members get a cash payout for each prep mission, while the leader won’t receive their cash until the finale is complete. Switching between the roles of crew member and heist leader will give players a totally different experience, and we had to make sure there were real incentives to playing each position so that players would see every aspect of how a heist comes together and not just want to stick to the same role each time.

Some missions have all players working as one unit, some require players to take on specific tasks like hacking or crowd control, while others require players to split into smaller teams to complete separate high value objectives. For example, one team may be stealing a getaway car from some gangsters while another team is attempting to sneak into a police station, all within the same prep mission. We really want to push the co-op aspect and make players feel like they need to communicate effectively and work together to pull off each element.

Each finale is a big set-piece mission with players taking on multiple roles. All through this, players will be gaining access to new vehicles, new weapons, new items and new clothing, as well as visiting some surprising locations and interacting with some familiar characters from the story.

The Planning Room:

With Grand Theft Auto Online Heists, you’ll need a high-end apartment to be the leader of a heist, this is because a planning room is required. The planning room is where Lester and your assistant (seen in the Heists Trailer) will assist you in preparing and setting up the Heist. This includes any outfits, weapons, vehicles and locations you’ll need to know. You can either look at the planning board and start/continue as a Heist Leader or jump straight into a Heist lobby as a member.

More Content With The Heists Update:

Grand Theft Auto Online Heists doesn’t just bring the ability to carry out big scores with 3 of your friends, but also adds in a bunch of new vehicles, weapons outfits and locations, such as the carrier in the screenshot above. You may notice the jet on the right too. Yes, this is the highly awaited Hydra! The Hydra Jet and Hunter Attack Chopper are just two of many new vehicles which have been added into the game and can be purchased in GTAOnline once you have done the Heist mission which the vehicle is used in. As you progress through GTAOnline Heists you’ll start unlocked new vehicles and clothes and weapons such as the flare gun.

Future Heists:

GTAOnline Heists only starts off with 5 Heists:

Fleeca Bank Job – A setup Heist (kinda like a Prologue) to Heists to introduce the player to how things will work. A quick, simple but small bank job out in Chumash.

Prison Break Heist – 4 Player Heist which involves breaking a prisoner out of the Bolingbroke Penitentiary.

Humane Lab Raid – Similar to the Monkey Business mission from Story Mode, this 4 Player Heist involved breaking into the Humane Resources Lab to

Series A – Drug Heists for Trevor Phillips. Involves collecting and delivering them to him and Ron.

Pacific Standard Job – Final Heist, aka The Big Score which involves taking on the Pacific Standard Bank in Vinewood.

There’s not many heists available from Day 1, however GTAOnline Heists seem to be something which Rockstar could just keep adding to, and even create paid DLC with. The occasional Heist or 2 every month or so can build the new DLC up to something great.
